Kaze Tachinu
The phrase Arising Wind (kaze tachinu) became the title of this collaboration. It originated in a line from the Japanese translation of Paul Valery’s 1920 poem, Le Cimetiere Marin (Graveyard by the Sea.)
Le vent se leve...il faut tenter de vivre!
“The wind arises...One must live!”
Calligraphy by Yoko Nishina. White paper layered on blue unryu paper. Mounting in vintage omeshi silk, antique coral finials.
