Jūichimen

Kannon

A popular avatar of Kannon, especially in the Shingon sect, the eleven-faced Kannon was one of the earliest Buddhist images to reach Japan. Ten of the heads supposedly represent ten steps on the Bodhisattva path, with the eleventh being enlightenment.
