萌兆

Spring Green

Chloe

The artwork is calligraphy by my daughter Chloe, who studied in Japan with Yoko Nishina. The first character, moegi, refers to the color of spring green (the same kind of green of the Greek word chloros—the root of Chloe’s name.) The second character, kizashi, means a sign or harbinger.

The inner edging of this scroll is this moegi color, and the outer mounting is meisen silk from a vintage kimono. The finials are cracked lacquer on wood.
